Workshops and stakeholder visits

Clear communication and regular stakeholder engagement support regulatory compliance and contribute to effective management of Queensland’s water resources.

During 2025-26, the department strengthened its regulatory presence across Queensland through communication, education and stakeholder engagement activities.

Engaging directly with stakeholders

Direct engagement remained an important part of the department's regulatory approach.

Dam Safety and Water Supply Regulation teams conducted site visits and delivered workshops across Queensland. These activities gave stakeholders opportunities to:

  • discuss regulatory requirements
  • ask questions
  • better understand their responsibilities
  • receive practical guidance.

Face-to-face engagement also supported the introduction of new policies and processes by helping to clarify compliance expectations and address local issues.

Importantly, these activities allowed stakeholders to provide feedback and share their experiences. This helped the department identify opportunities to improve regulatory processes and services.

Communicating regulatory requirements

The department provided regular e-alerts, newsletters and compliance updates to regulated stakeholders.

These communications included information about:

  • legislative requirements
  • reporting obligations
  • important deadlines
  • emerging regulatory issues.

Providing timely and practical information helped stakeholders understand what was required and prepare for upcoming regulatory responsibilities.

The department also used media releases, website updates and social media to share regulatory information, compliance reminders and examples of good practice. Using a range of communication channels improved accessibility and helped ensure key messages reached different stakeholder groups.

Building trust and confidence

Regular communication and engagement helped stakeholders better understand regulatory requirements and the department's role as a regulator.

By increasing opportunities for two-way communication, the department helped stakeholders:

  • understand their responsibilities
  • learn how regulatory decisions are made
  • access support when needed
  • provide feedback on regulatory processes.

This approach encouraged greater awareness of compliance obligations and supported a culture of compliance across regulated sectors.

It also reinforced the department's commitment to being a transparent, responsive and accountable regulator that supports the sustainable management of Queensland's water resources.

Outcome

The department's communication and engagement activities strengthened its regulatory presence across Queensland.

Through workshops, site visits, education activities and targeted communications, the department increased stakeholder awareness, encouraged meaningful engagement and promoted consistent regulatory messages.

These efforts supported voluntary compliance, improved transparency and strengthened confidence in the regulatory framework that supports the sustainable management of Queensland's water resources.
